commemorative metal plaque, erected by the Longview Daily News and Cowlitz Historical Society, on "The Site of Mount Coffin" "Prominent landmark of the lower Columbia, this rock stood 225 feet in height. In and among the trees on its top, the Cowlitz Indians deposited their dead. Named in 1792 by Lt. William Broughton, Royal Navy, of the Vancouver Expedition. Rock reduced to gravel, 1922-1954." |
